Paintings.  A lost art.

Old school portraits and still lifes are popping up all over the design blogs.  I love it.  The pendulum seems to have swung from a more graphic design based art trend to this lovely style reminiscent of the past. It adds a certain softness and personal feel to a room.

Now, mind you, I already have a thing for real painterly paintings. My fancy pants brother has been my personal art history teacher.  Growing up, he would talk me through his favorite art books or tell me what to look for at art museums.  John Singer Sargent is one of the artists that has really stuck with me. The top image is my current favorite portrait by Mr. Sargent.  If I could afford the real deal - It would be in my house.  But until then - I’ll explore newer less expensive options, like that little bathing beauty on etsy.
